Healthy Homes

Cleaning and properly maintaining your homes Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and chimneys will improve your indoor air quality and protect your family’s health and safety.

Air Duct Cleaning

Normal accumulations of dust and dirt found in a typical home over time can cause an unhealthy breathing environment. Contaminants can be distributed by your HVAC system throughout your home resulting in poor indoor air quality. Other factors can increase your need for air duct cleaning including pets, cigarette smoke, interior home renovations, and occupants with allergies or asthma. Cunningham’s HVAC system cleaning will eliminate contaminants from your system and ductwork providing you with fresh healthy air to breath. Please see our Consumer Resources page for additional information on air duct cleaning and our processes.

Cunningham Duct Cleaning Co. has been a certified member of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association since its inception. Our service technicians are trained and prepared to follow NADCA’s standards. WWW.NADCA.COM

Fireplace and Chimney Cleaning

The U.S. Fire Administration reports that an estimated 25,000 fires and 30 deaths yearly are attributed to chimney fires. Chimney fires can occur as a result of creosote deposits in your chimney. Creosote is the build up of residue that is formed as a burning fire exhausts through your chimney to cooler air creating condensation and ultimately sticking to the lining walls of your chimney. Creosote is extremely flammable and a sufficient build up can lead to a chimney fire.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard states that a home’s chimneys shall be inspected and cleaned at least once yearly. It is recommended that fireplaces and its chimney shall be cleaned as needed depending on frequency of use but cleanings should not exceed a two year period.

As Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) members and Certified Chimney Sweeps Cunningham will inspect and clean your home’s chimneys for safe use. cert_chimney_sweep

Clothes Dryer Vent Cleaning

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that clothes dryers are associated with 15,600 fires yearly. Clothing lint and additional debris can form over time in your clothing dryer vent and may cause your dryer to exhaust at less than optimal efficiency. This creates a potentially hazardous condition that could ultimately lead to a fire. A blocked or restricted dryer vent does not allow heat and lint particles from your dryer to be exhausted from your home possibly allowing the lint built up in that vent to catch fire. Additionally blocked gas dryer vents could force carbon monoxide back into your living space.

The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommends that a home’s dryer vent is inspected and cleaned yearly to prevent these hazardous conditions and provide an unobstructed path for clothing dryers to exhaust efficiently.

As Certified Dryer Exhaust Technicians (C-DET) Cunningham can effectively inspect and clean you clothing dryer vent allowing your dryer to run efficiently and safely. csia_logo

Chimney Repairs & Installations

Minor masonry work, cap installations, liner installations

Over time chimneys will deteriorate due to their exposure to water and the elements. This is due to a process called freeze/thaw in which moisture penetrates materials then freezes and expands causing undue stress on your chimney. Water penetration can cause interior and exterior damage to a masonry chimney including spalling and broken brickwork, decayed mortar, and cracked flue liner tile that can prevent a chimney from drafting properly. Cunningham can provide you with the following solutions:

Chimney Liner Installations
Installation of stainless steel chimney liners will protect your home from heat transfer to combustibles. Chimney liners are considered extremely safe, durable, and efficient in allowing safe expulsion of gases and heat from your home.

Chimney Cap Installations
Stainless steel chimney caps mitigate the amount of rain water that enters your chimney. They also prevent animals from entering your chimney and nesting inside which could result in reduced drafting and even a chimney fire.

Masonry Repairs
Repairs to a chimney’s cement crowning and brickwork can prevent water from penetrating your chimney. Chimney base flashing will prevent water from infiltrating your roofing.
